May 5, 2013

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman Olivier Hanlan earned team MVP honors and sophomore Dennis Clifford captured the Frank Power Memorial Award at the program's year-end Roundball Club Banquet on Sunday.

The event was held in the Yawkey Center on the Boston College campus.

Hanlan was the ACC Freshman of the Year this past season, averaging 15.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. The Aylmer, Quebec product ranked fifth in the ACC in scoring and reached double figures in all but five games. Hanlan scored 41 points against Georgia Tech in the opening round of the ACC Tournament, an ACC freshman record. He was the only unanimous selection to the All-ACC Freshman Team.

The Frank Power Memorial Award is given annually in memory of the longtime Boston College basketball coach to the player who exemplifies the dedication, loyalty, spirit and love for Boston College and its basketball program that was characteristic of Coach Power and his life.

Clifford, who was voted captain by his teammates prior to the season, was hampered by a knee injury all season. He still played in 30 games and made 14 starts, averaging 2.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.

In addition to Hanlan and Clifford's honors, three other awards were presented at the banquet. Freshman Joe Rahon earned the program's Learning Resources/Academic Award; sophomore Ryan Anderson captured the Coaches' Award; and seniors Catalina Collazo and Brad Fadem earned the Mary Kaye Waldron Managers' Award.

Boston College finished the 2012-13 season at 16-17 and 7-11 in the ACC. The Eagles closed the year by winning four of its last five games.

Fr. Greg Kalscheur, S.J. and Fr. Jeremy Clarke, S.J. offered the invocation, before the radio voice of the Eagles, Jon Meterparel, took over as the master of ceremonies. Among those presenting the awards were former Eagles Malcolm Huckaby '94 and Marc Molinsky ' 95.

Richard Schoenfeld of the Boston College Varsity Club addressed the gathering and welcomed graduate student Andrew Van Nest and the four senior managers into the club. Van Nest spoke to the audience and expressed his gratitude to the entire team for the past year.

Video coordinator Dan McDermott closed the banquet with a highlight video.
