BC OPENS ACC TOURNEY WITH GTECH
Boston College opens the 2014 ACC Tournament by facing Georgia Tech on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
The Eagles are the #14 seed while the Yellow Jackets are #11.
The winner of the game will take on #6 Clemson at 9 p.m. on Thursday night.
Georgia Tech won both regular season meetings this year. It won, 68-60, in Chestnut Hill and then in Atlanta, Marcus Georges-Hunt went the length of the floor and hit a 3-pointer with 0.7 left to give the Yellow Jackets the win, 74-71.
The Eagles enter the tournament having lost four of its last five. The lone win came at Wake Forest on March 1, 80-72.
Georgia Tech has won its last two games, including triumphs over #7/7 Syracuse at the Carrier Dome and at home against Virginia Tech.
BC IN THE ACC TOURNAMENT
Boston College is 7-8 all-time in the ACC Tournament.
BC has not advanced past the quarterfinal round since 2007. It reached the ACC Tournament championship game in its first season in the conference in 2006 and advanced to the semifinals the following year.
The Eagles went 1-1 last year in the tournament. They beat Georgia Tech in the opening round, 84-64, behind Olivier Hanlan's freshman record 41 points.
BC then lost to #9/10 Miami in the quarterfinals, 69-58. The Hurricanes closed that game on a 14-3 run to take the win.
HANLAN NAMED ALL-ACC THIRD TEAM
Sophomore Olivier Hanlan was named to the All-ACC Third Team by both the coaches and the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA)
Junior Ryan Anderson was an honorable mention selection by ACSMA.
Hanlan ranks third in the ACC in scoring (18.6), sixth in free throw percentage (.819) and seventh in field goal percentage (.450). He scored in double figures in 29 of the 31 regular-season games and had 12 games of 20 or more points. In conference action, Hanlan ranked second in scoring (18.4) and fourth in field goal percentage (.460). The Aylmer, Quebec product scored 38 points against Florida Atlantic earlier in the season which marked the third-most points scored in a game this year.
Anderson ranks ninth in the ACC in rebounding (7.1) and 11th in scoring (14.3). He reached double-figure scoring in 25 of the 31 games this season and had seven games of 20 or more points. He also had six games of double-digit rebounds and recorded four double-doubles.
