Hanlan, Speer Named Eagles of the Week

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore Olivier Hanlan (men's basketball) and senior Tory Speer (softball) have been named Eagles of the Week for their performances last week.

Hanlan averaged 15.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists as Boston College went 1-1 last week. He recorded a game-high 20 points and three assists to lead the Eagles to an upset of previously undefeated #1/1 Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. Hanlan scored 16 of his points in the second half and overtime, helping BC come back from 13 points down in the second half to win, 62-59. He then scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds in a Saturday loss at Miami. Hanlan ranks third in the ACC in scoring (18.0), sixth in free throw percentage (.825) and eighth in field goal percentage (.435).

Speer powered Boston College to four victories over the weekend. In five games, she batted .538 (7-for-13) with four home runs, two doubles and 10 RBIs. In the five games, she posted an on-base percentage of .632 and a slugging percentage of 1.615. She helped the team overcome a seven-run deficit against Drake to come back and win, 11-8, with a home run, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Speer was named ACC Player of the Week for her performance.

Men's basketball (7-20, 3-11 ACC) hosts Pittsburgh on Wednesday night and is on the road at Wake Forest on Saturday. Softball (6-4) opens ACC play this weekend with a three-game series at Georgia Tech.
