Eagles Lose to Villanova
Junior forward Kostas Maglos recorded a career-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Boston College in an 83-76 BIG EAST loss to Villanova before 5,673 fans in Conte Forum.
Maglos' totals gave him his fourth point-rebound double-double in the last seven games.
Villanova (6-4, 3-0 BIG EAST) shot 61.8 percent from the floor, including a blistering 64.3 percent in the first half. Sophomore forward Malik Allen led the Wildcats with 21 points, 17 of those in the second half.
Villanova raced to a 33-17 lead midway through the first half, before the host Eagles rallied to take a 42-41 halftime advantage. Maglos led BC (8-5, 1-2 BIG EAST) with 14 first-half points, while freshman Javier Rodriguez scored 12 points before the intermission.
BC extended its lead to five points (49-44) with 16:35 remaining in the contest, before Villanova scored nine straight points to gain the advantage. BC tied the score at 53-53 on a Maglos dunk with 13:17 to play. Villanova then scored eight unanswered points to assume a lead it never relinquished.
GAME NOTES: BC committed just 11 turnovers and outrebounded the Wildcats, 31-27 ... Javier Rodriguez converted a four-point play (a trey plus a free throw) with 5:22 to play in the first half ... BC shot 51.6 percent from the field in the first half, before hitting just 35.7 percent in the final 20 minutes ... The Eagles shot a season-best 82.6 percent (19-for-23) from the foul line ... The Eagles were whistled for just two first-half fouls. In fact, BC had committed just four team fouls -- including the two first-half fouls -- through the game's first 36 minutes.
