Eagles Drop Holy Cross, 69-54
Junior Kostas Maglos registered 15 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots to lead Boston College to a 69-54 non-league win over Holy Cross in the 100th meeting between the two Jesuit rivals. BCs three senior co-captains also all netted double-digit scoring totals in the Conte Forum victory as Antonio Granger netted 13 points, and Mickey Curley and Duane Woodward each added 11 points.
BC led 43-16 at halftime. The Eagles tallied 24 unanswered points during a nine-minute Holy Cross drought late in the first half. The Eagle defense limited Holy Cross to 18 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes.
BC extended its lead to as many as 34 points in the second half (64-30 with 8:55 remaining), before the visiting Crusaders rallied and closed the final margin to fifteen points.
Holy Cross was led by James Stowers (13 points) andJared Curry (12 points, five assists).
GAME NOTES: BC hit 15-of-30 field goal attempts in the first half (50 percent), including 5-of-9 from three-point range... BC outrebounded Holy Cross 53-33... Senior Mickey Curley suffered a sprained right ankle in the second half of the game. He is expected to miss two weeks.
Junior forward Kostas Maglos had his third double-double in the last five games. Maglos registered point-rebound double-doubles against Fordham and Syracuse, and finished with 15 points (6-for-9 FG, 3-for-6 FT) and 10 rebounds against the Crusaders. The Athens, Greece product is now shooting a BIG EAST-best 63.6 percent from the field through 11 games.
Holy Cross was the third of five Jesuit institutions the Eagles will meet on the hardwood this winter. Still to come are Marquette (Jan. 17) and Georgetown (twice - Feb. 1 and Feb. 21) ... Boston College returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 23 against Northwestern University at Conte Forum. Game time is 7 p.m. Tickets are still available.
