CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman Dennis Clifford led the Eagles with 14 points as Boston College lost to #24 Harvard, 67-46, Thursday night in front of a sellout crowd of 8,606 at Conte Forum.
Clifford went 5-for-6 from the floor and 4-for-6 from the foul line. Freshman Patrick Heckmann scored 13 points off the bench and added six assists and five rebounds.
Boston College used hot shooting and good defense to start the game on a 14-3 run in the first 5:37. The Eagles hit seven of their first eight shots to build the early lead while Harvard missed its first eight attempts from the field. Clifford scored five points in the run.
Harvard chipped away at the lead and then went on a 19-2 run over five and a half minutes to build a 30-22 lead with 4:51 left in the half. Laurent Rivard led the Crimson with 10 points and then Harvard closed out the half on a 29-13 run to take a 40-33 halftime lead.
The tempo of the game slowed in the first 10 minutes of the second half as the teams combined for just 15 points. BC stayed within reach of the Crimson for the first 11 minutes, cutting the lead to nine points with 8:32 left to play when Heckmann connected on a layup. Harvard then scored 12 unanswered points in a five-minute span to increase its lead to 64-43 with 4:55 to go.
Rivard led all scorers with 18 points for the Crimson (11-1). Corbin Miller chipped in with 12 points and Brandyn Curry had 11 points and five assists.
The Eagles (5-8) are back in action on Monday when they host Rhode Island at 1 p.m.
