Men's Basketball Falls To VCU, 69-50

BROOKLYN - Sophomore Olivier Hanlan scored a game-high 17 points as the Boston College men's basketball team lost to VCU, 69-50, on Saturday night at the Barclays Center as part of the BROOKLYN HOOPS Winter Festival.
Hanlan was 10-for-14 from the foul line and scored 13 of his points in the second half. He also had five rebounds. Junior Ryan Anderson recorded 13 points and seven boards.
Boston College started the game with an 8-3 lead that forced VCU to take the game's first timeout. Anderson and Hanlan combined for the eight points. The Rams responded with a 10-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 13-10 lead at 11:07. BC scored seven unanswered points over 6:40 to take a 17-16 lead, but VCU scored the half's last six points to take a 22-17 lead into the locker room.
There were four ties and four lead changes in the first 20 minutes.
The Rams scored the first six points of the second half to build a 28-17 lead at the 17:17 mark. That was part of a 27-10 start to the second half for VCU which gave it a 49-27 lead near the midway point. Boston College was never closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
VCU (11-3) was led by Juvonte Reddic who had 14 points and eight rebounds. Rob Bradenberg and Treveon Graham both had 13 points, and Melvin Johnson had 12 points off the bench.
BC (4-9) is back in action on New Year's Day when it faces Harvard in Lavietes Pavilion at 4 p.m.
