BOSTON (AP) -- Tyrese Rice and Shamari Spears scored 16 points each to lead Boston College to an 80-75 win over Sacred Heart on Friday night.

Rice, the team's leading scorer at 19.7 points per game, shot 3-for-6 from the floor but went 8-for-8 from the line, hitting six in the final three minutes after Sacred Heart trimmed a 16-point deficit to five, 70-65, with 3:03 to play.

The Pioneers (4-8) cut it to 78-75 with 10.2 seconds left, but Spears sealed it with two free throws.

Tyrelle Blair and John Oates each had 12 points for BC.

Brice Brooks had 15 points and Ryon Howard 14 for the Pioneers.

The Eagles (9-2) trailed 26-24 midway through the first half before Spears tied it with a turnaround in the lane that triggered a 20-5 half-closing run.

After Spears' basket, Corey Raji put BC ahead for good with a 3-pointer. Oates followed with a 3 from the top, making it 32-26.

Rice's 3 with 2.4 seconds left in the half capped the run and gave the Eagles a 44-31 halftime lead.

Most of the suspense in the second half came as the PA announcer kept the crowd updated with the score of BC's football game against Michigan State at the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando, Fla.

The Eagles' lead ranged between 17 and nine points for most of the second half before the Pioneers closed it to 70-65 on Mehmet Sahan's basket with 3:03 to play.
