RALEIGH, N.C. - Sophomore Lonnie Jackson scored a team-high 16 points, but Boston College lost to NC State, 82-64, at PNC Arena on Wednesday night.
Sophomore Ryan Anderson recorded 12 points and six rebounds while freshman Olivier Hanlan also scored 12 points. Freshman Joe Rahon totaled eight points and five assists.
After the Eagles scored the game's first basket, the Wolfpack scored 14 straight points to take a 14-2 lead just under eight minutes into the contest. Back-to-back buckets from Jackson and Hanlan stemmed NC State's run. The Wolfpack responded with eight unanswered points to stake a 22-6 edge with just under nine minutes remaining in the opening half.
BC countered with an 11-0 run to trim the Wolfpack's edge to 22-17 with 6:23 to go in the first. Jackson connected on two 3-pointers during the run. After a 7-2 spurt from NC State, the Eagles used an 8-1 run to cut the Wolfpack's lead to 30-27 with 42 seconds left in the half. A 3-pointer from NCSU's Scott Wood just before the buzzer gave NC State a 33-27 edge at the break.
Early in the second half, five straight points from Jackson brought BC within 39-34, but NC State answered with 10 consecutive points to claim a 49-34 edge with 13 minutes to play. A 3-pointer from Hanlan ended BC's scoring drought.
After two free throws from Anderson cut NC State's lead to 53-41 with just over 10 minutes to play, the Wolfpack scored eight straight points to begin a 16-4 run which gave the hosts a 69-45 edge with 5:26 to play. BC outscored NCSU 19-13 in the remainder of the game.
Rodney Purvis led NC State (20-8, 9-6 ACC) with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, and Wood scored 17 points. Richard Howell grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Next, Boston College (12-16, 4-11 ACC) returns to Conte Forum to host Virginia on Sunday at 4 p.m. (ACC Network).
