CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman Ryan Anderson led all scorers with 21 points and had eight rebounds as Boston College lost to #5/4 Duke, 75-50, Sunday night in front of a sold-out crowd of 8,606 at Conte Forum.
Anderson went 6-for-12 from the field and 7-for-10 from the foul line. It was his fourth straight game with 14 or more points. Junior Matt Humphrey was the other Eagle in double figures with 12 points.
BC got off to a hot start by hitting its first five shots, including three 3-pointers, to take a 13-7 lead at the first media timeout. Anderson connected on two of the treys. The Duke defense buckled down while the offense scored the next eight points to take a 15-13 advantage. The Eagles were held scoreless for 9:04 and went without a field goal for 14:12 before a Humphrey 3-pointer ended the drought and cut the deficit to 25-19. The Blue Devils took a 30-21 lead into the break.
Duke started the second half on a 9-1 run to build a 39-22 lead after three minutes expired. Seth Curry finished the run with three free throws. Boston College was unable to close the gap the rest of the half as it cut the deficit to only 15, 44-29. The Blue Devils' second-half lead reached as many as 28 points at 59-31.
Curry led the Blue Devils (23-4, 10-2 ACC) with 18 points while Austin Rivers had 16. Andre Dawkins had 13 points off the bench, and Miles Plumlee recorded nine points and 10 rebounds.
Boston College (8-19, 3-10) takes a short break before traveling to Wake Forest on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
