CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Freshman Olivier Hanlan scored a game-high 20 points as Boston College lost to #4/4 Duke, 62-61, in front of 6,709 fans in Conte Forum on Sunday night.
On the night's final possession, Hanlan drove into the lane from left to right. His jump shot from just inside the right elbow hit the back rim and the Eagles could not corral the rebound for a final shot.
Hanlan made 11 of 12 free throws on the night and sophomore Ryan Anderson recorded 17 points on 8-for-14 shooting to go with six rebounds.
A dunk from sophomore Eddie Odio off an inbounds pass brought the Eagles within one, 50-49, with just under eight minutes remaining. Duke made it a two possession game with 6:31 on the clock when Quinn Cook hit a 3-pointer to give the Blue Devils a 55-51 lead.
A jumper from Anderson started a 10-1 BC run that saw the Eagles capture a 61-56 lead with 2:15 left in the game. Anderson converted two more baskets during the streak while Jackson made a layup and Hanlan hit two free throws.
The Blue Devils scored the game's last six points on a 3-pointer from Cook and three free throws from Mason Plumlee for the final margin.
The Eagles opened the game with a 13-5 lead just over nine minutes into the contest as BC held Duke to just two field goals during that stretch. Rahon and Hanlan each scored four points during the initial run.
The Blue Devils countered with six straight points to pull within 13-11, but BC stretched its lead to 21-14 with just over four minutes left in the opening period. Duke then went on an 11-3 run to take its first lead of the game, 25-24, with one minute remaining in the half. Inside of the last minute, Hanlan hit a 3-pointer and Plumlee converted on a dunk to tie the score at 27-27 heading into the break.
Plumlee led Duke (21-2, 8-2 ACC) with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Seth Curry scored 18 points.
Boston College (10-13, 2-8 ACC) returns to action on Wednesday night when it hosts Wake Forest at 7 p.m. (RSN) in Conte Forum.
