Dan McDermott is in his 10th year with the Boston College basketball program and his first as the Director of Basketball Operations.
McDermott served the previous nine years as video coordinator for Al Skinner and Steve Donahue.
His responsibilities as video coordinator included coordinating film exchange, assisting the coaching staff with video editing for self and opponent scouting, and supervising the managerial staff. In addition, McDermott acted as a technical consultant, keeping the coaches and staff informed on the latest technology and equipment being used by other top programs.
McDermott has been heavily involved in scheduling opponents in the last few seasons and serves as the director of the Boston College Boys Basketball Camp.
In addition, McDermott has been actively involved with the American Cancer Society and its Coaches vs. Cancer initiative. He has organized the Boston College Coaches vs. Cancer 5K the last four years and is on the executive board of the Coaches vs. Cancer Massachusetts Tip-Off.
McDermott earned his master's degree in business administration from BC's Carroll School of Business in December 2010. He had previously earned his master's degree in higher education administration from BC's Lynch School of Education in 2007.
Prior to assuming his current position, McDermott worked in the Boston College Media Relations Office, where he researched and coordinated the design and content of the Hajjar Family Football Museum in the Yawkey Athletics Center.
He earned his bachelor's degree in English from Boston College in 2004.
