Metz is in his third season at Boston College and his first as an assistant coach. He joined the Eagles for the 2011-12 season after serving the previous five seasons as the head coach at Hobart College. Prior to assuming those head coaching duties, Metz served five successful seasons as Steve Donahue's assistant coach at Cornell.

Metz served the first two seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations.

During his tenure as the head coach at Hobart, Metz compiled a 69-62 record. In 2010-11, he guided the Statesmen to the Liberty League regular-season crown and the ECAC Upstate tournament title. His team finished with a 21-7 mark, setting the school's single-season record for wins. In 2009-10, Metz and his assistants earned league Coaching Staff of the Year accolades. During his tenure, his recruiting classes produced three Liberty League Rookies of the Year and a two-time unanimous All-Liberty League selection.

A 1998 graduate of Hobart, Metz played basketball for the Statesmen. Following graduation, he joined the coaching staff at Bishop Montgomery High School, just south of his native Los Angeles.

He returned to Hobart as assistant coach for one season (2000-01), before joining Donahue's staff at Cornell.

Metz graduated from Hobart in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in economics.

Metz and his wife Megan have one son, Miles (2).
