First & Second Round Games Set for FleetCenter
The NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee has chosen Boston College as the host institution for the first and second round East region games of the 1999 NCAA Basketball Championship Tournament. The games are scheduled to be played in the FleetCenter on March 11 and 13, 1999.
The basketball committee's recommendation has been forwarded to the NCAA Executive Committee for final approval, which is expected next week.
In announcing the selection, Boston College Athletic Director Chet Gladchuk said, "This is a milestone for college basketball in our community. Hosting this event brings tremendous visibility, prestige, and economic benefit to Boston and the surrounding communities.
"I am sure that when the coaches, players and fans of some of the nation's finest basketball programs visit our city, they will find the hospitality, accommodations and the beautiful new FleetCenter to be extraordinary. This is a big-time event in a big-time city!"
The 1999 tournament games will mark the first time the NCAA basketball championship will take place in Boston.
