All-ACC Academic Team

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Recent Boston College graduates Hunter Gordon and Matt Paré were named the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team, the league announced on Monday afternoon. The honor was the first for both players.

Gordon, who earned his marketing degree from the Carroll School of Management in May, ended his BC career with a win at Maryland on May 16 and tallying 104 career strikeouts. The right-hander made four strong starts to finish the season, going 22.2 scoreless innings before giving up a run in the sixth to the Terps. He allowed just one run in his final 24.1 innings in the Maroon and Gold. He led the Maroon and Gold pitching staff with a 2.67 ERA and a .233 opposing batting average. The righty was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll as a junior and earned the Athletics Director's Academic for Academic Achievement as a senior.

He is a two-time recipient of the Athletics Director's Award for Academic Achievement, and was chosen to wear number eight in honor of Peter "Sonny" Nictackis before the start of the season.

Florida State's Gage Smith earned the honor of baseball's ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

To be eligible for consideration to the academic team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
