Shaw, Speer Named Eagles of the Week

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore Chris Shaw (baseball) and senior Tory Speer (softball) have been named Eagles of the Week.

Shaw was 9-for-17 in the Eagles' five games last week, driving in eight runs and extending his career-long hit streak to 15-games, which is tied for third longest in the BC record books. He drove in the game-winning run in the first game against Pittsburgh with his first career walk-off in the bottom of the ninth to give the Eagles their sixth consecutive ACC win. Shaw recorded a career-high four runs and five RBIs in the loss to Pitt on Sunday. In the series with the Panthers, Shaw was 7-for-10 with six runs, six RBIs, 12 total bases, a 1.200 slugging percentage and a .786 on-base percentage.

Speer hit .625 (10-for-16) and had an on-base percentage of .647 in five games last week. The Eagles defeated Providence and Maine midweek and Speer went 3-for-7 at the plate with four RBIs. In a three-game series at Notre Dame, Speer went 7-for-9 with five runs scored, two RBIs while hitting her team-leading 12th home run of the season. Defensively, Speer did not make an error behind the plate and had 11 putouts and two assists.

Baseball (20-29, 9-18 ACC) hosts Binghamton for a pair of games this weekend. Softball (30-22, 12-14 ACC) opens the ACC Tournament by facing Notre Dame on Thursday.
