CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - - Jeff Mackor (Salem, N.H./St. John's Prep) hit .563 (9-for-16) with one double, four home runs and nine RBIs to earn BIG EAST Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors (April 23-29). The last Eagle recognized for the weekly award was Brian Durkin, who went 10-for-24 at the plate with three home runs, seven RBIs and five walks (March 5-11).
The junior catcher led BC to a 4-1 record on the week en route to an overall mark of 23-20-0, punctuated with a three-game sweep of BIG EAST foe Villanova. It was BC's first sweep over a league rival this season.
In the series sweep of the Wildcats, Mackor batted .700 with four of seven hits counting as home runs. His first of two dingers in the first game, an 11-2 decision, plated the game-winning run. In the 6-4 win, Mackor's roundtripper knotted the game at four. He then tied the score at seven in the eighth inning of the third game with his fourth long ball of the weekend before BC pushed across the decisive tally in the last of the ninth for the 8-7 victory.
He is now batting .303 for 32 RBIs. The 2001 Johnny Bench Watch List candidate has thrown out 28 of 70 basestealers.
