CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College's Mike Gambino
(Garrison, N.Y.) earned BIG EAST Player-of-the-Week honors after
hitting safely in 20 games while going 8-for-12 in a three-game series
at Notre Dame this past weekend (April 8-9). Gambino is the third
Eagle (Steve Langone, Jarett Mendoza) to earn the conference
distinction this season.
Gambino's batting average jumped 34 points to .400 on the Indiana trip. The senior second baseman scored five runs and drove in six with one home run to help the Eagles to a 1-2 record against the 24th-ranked (Collegiate Baseball) Fighting Irish. He was a perfect 4-for-4 in the BC's 11-1 victory over Notre Dame on Sunday, April 9.
Gambino hit 12-for-19 (.632) with nine runs scored and six RBIs, including one triple and one home run on the week (April 2-9). He scored the game-winning run in BC's 6-5 win over Brown in its final at bat on Thursday, April 6.
For the month of April, Gambino is 15-for-29 with 10 runs scored and seven RBIs. The last time he went hitless was March 8 versus Mount St. Mary's. On the season, Gambino has 13 multiple-hit outings and five multiple-RBI efforts.
