March 12, 2001
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - - Brian Durkin (Lowell, Mass.) went 10-for-24 at the plate with three home runs, seven RBIs and five walks to be named BIG EAST offensive player of the week for the week ending Sunday March 11. The last time an Eagle was nominated for the weekly award was May 1, 2000 when Steve Langone earned Pitcher-of-the-Week accolades.
Durkin led the Eagles to eight consecutive victories - its first-ever sweep on the Florida trip - to improve to 9-5 on the season.
On the eight-game road trip, including March 3rd's win over Michigan, the junior utility player collected four home runs and one triple for a .893 slugging percentage. Durkin fell one double short of a cycle in Sunday's 11-4 victory over LaSalle, going 3-for-3 at the plate. He is now batting .340.
BC faces Virginia Tech for a BIG EAST doubleheader Saturday, March 17. Game time is 12 noon.
