Baseball Ranked 17th on ESPN Baseball Power Rankings
Feb. 21, 2012
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College baseball team was ranked 17th by ESPN in their Power Rankings, released on Tuesday. The Eagles were also named the "Off-Radar Team of the Weekend" for their sweep in the Caravelle Resort Tournament, beating No. 17 Virginia, James Madison and No. 35 Coastal Carolina.
The article noted that the Eagles were the only team in the country that beat two ranked teams over the weekend. They took down Virginia, which advanced to the College World Series last year, 5-3, defending Colonial Athletic Conference champions James Madison, 8-5, and Coastal Carolina, another NCAA Tournament team, 8-3.
The Eagles were one of five Atlantic Coast Conference teams to make the cut. Miami (fifth), Florida State (sixth), Clemson (13th) and North Carolina (20th) rounded out the league representation.
BC travels to Orlando, Fla., on Feb. 24 for a three-game series with UCF. The Knights are one of the nine teams the Eagles still face that went to the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
