Box Score

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, game tied and the bases loaded, junior Mike Belfiore launched an 0-2 pitch over the wall in left-center for a walk-off grand slam to give the Boston College baseball team a 10-6 win against Le Moyne on Mother's Day at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field.

The Eagles were down 6-4 entering the bottom of the ninth but scored six two-out runs to steal the win. Freshman Brad Zapenas got things started with a double down the left field line and then sophomore Mike Sudol reached on an error by the third baseman. Redshirt freshman Andrew Lawrence sacrificed both runners into scoring position and after a strikeout for out number two, sophomore Matt Hamlet walked on four pitches to load the bases for junior Tony Sanchez.

Sanchez delivered when he shot a 2-0 offering the other way for a single and two runs to tie the game. Sophomore Mickey Wiswall walked to load the bases again and after swinging and missing on the first two pitches he saw, Belfiore pulled the next pitch over the wall for the dramatic come-from-behind win.

It was Belfiore's 11th home run of the season and his second grand slam. Junior Robbie Anston, Sanchez and Zapenas all had two hits. Sanchez drove in two runs and Zapenas had a double and scored three times. Freshman Anthony Melchionda contributed with a two-RBI double.

Sophomore Kevin Moran got the win on the mound after working 2.0 innings and allowing one base runner. Brandon Otto was saddled with the loss, charged with four unearned runs in the ninth.

Boston College improved its record to 30-20 on the year with the win. It marks the first time the Eagles have reached 30 wins since 2005 and it is the sixth time to reach that number in program history.

BC got on the board first with a run in the second inning. Zapenas pulled a 2-2 offering down the line in left to start the inning and then reached third on a wild pitch. Senior Harry Darling used a nice piece of hitting to plate him with a groundout up the middle.

The Dolphins responded immediately with two runs of their own in the top of the third - both with two outs. Brett Botsford got things going with a single and then an error in the infield allowed Matt Marra to reach to put runners on first and second. Chris Edmonson made use of the extra out and singled to center to tie the game.

Chris Haynes kept the inning going when he pulled a single through the left side to put Le Moyne on top for the first time, 2-1.

BC scored three more times in the fourth to regain the lead. Zapenas led off and reached on an error by the second baseman and Darling sliced an 0-2 pitch inside the line in right to put runners at second and third with nobody out. With a full count on him, freshman Anthony Melchionda hit the base of the wall in right-center for a double and two runs to put BC back on top, 3-2.

Sophomore Matt Hamlet got the third run home with a sac fly to right field to put BC ahead, 4-2.

Le Moyne piled on four runs in the top of the seventh - all unearned - to take the 6-4 lead that it would lose in the ninth. With one out, Dan Sisto reached on an error and then Botsford snuck a single through the right side to put runners on the corners with two outs. Matt Marra found a hole on the left side of the infield for an RBI single to pull the Dolphins within a run.

Edmonson continued his hot hitting on the weekend when he pulled a pitch down the line in right and snuck it around the pole for a three-run home run to put Le Moyne ahead, 6-4.

Edmonson went 2-for-4 for the Dolphins (22-22) with the homer and four RBI. Botsford went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

Boston College will take a day off before hosting Connecticut on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field.
