Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader from Holy Cross

Eagles improve to 16-15 on the season.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - With the Eagles trailing 7-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Boston College junior Eric Olson belted a game-winning three-run homer that lifted his team to a 9-7 win against Holy Cross in the second game of an afternoon doubleheader.

BC (16-15) defeated the Crusaders 23-6 in the first game of the afternoon.

In the nightcap, BC was behind 7-4 going into the bottom of the sixth when they scored five runs to capture the win. Olsons home run led the charge.

Olson led the Eagles offense, hitting 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Olson earned one walk and one sacrifice fly. Junior Stephen Langone went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

On the mound, junior Paul Knapic worked six innings to earn the victory in his first career start. Sophomore Erik Olson pitched one perfect inning to seal his second save of the season.

In the opening game, the Eagles exploded for four runs in the second inning and eight runs in the third frame to distance themselves from the Crusaders. After a scoreless first inning, BC managed at least one run in the final five frames.

Freshman Brian Macchi hit his first home run of the season in his only official plate appearance. Senior Jeff Waldron went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored while junior Mike Quirk went 1-for-3 with four RBIs.

Freshman Brian Durkin also hit his first home run of the season. Junior Jamie Quiros pitched five strong innings to earn his second win of the season. He allowed four runs on five hits.

The Eagles return to action when they face Providence on April 21. Game time is 3 p.m. on BCs Shea Field.
