Morey didn't allow a hit through his first 3.2 innings. He struck out six batters in a row at one point and struck out the side in the second inning. Boston College was only able to get three runners in scoring position all day.
Virginia wasted no time getting on the board with a run in the top of the first. With two outs in the inning, Phil Gosselin hit a double down the line in left field and then Dan Grovatt took an 0-1 pitch the opposite way past the diving Brad Zapenas for a single and the game's first run.
The Cavaliers added a little insurance in the seventh with another run. John Barr got things started with a leadoff single and then stole second on a close play. Franco Valdez sacrificed him over to third base and then Jarrett Parker ripped a pitch down the line in right for a double to put Virginia up, 2-0.
Gosselin ended the day 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles for Virginia (30-8-1, 11-7-1 ACC). John Hicks and John Barr both had two hits.
Boston College (24-15, 10-9 ACC) is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Bryant at 3 p.m. at Eddie Pellegrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field.
