March 7, 2007
LANTANA, Fla. - After five one run losses, the Eagles turned the tide and won a walk-off game of their own this afternoon. John Spatola's single down the right field line scored Peter Frates from second, and gave BC a 10-9 win over Villanova University at the Santaluces Sports Complex. The win snaps the Eagles' three game losing streak and improves their record to 2-6. Villanova falls to 6-6 with the loss.
BC got to starter Ryan Wendler for four runs in the bottom of the first. Five of the first six Eagles would reach base as BC connected for four hits, including doubles by Ryan Hutchinson and Eric Campbell, giving them an early 4-0 lead.
The Wildcats would get one run back in the top of the next frame off of starter Nate Jeanes, when the shortstop De la Osa hit an RBI single up the middle, making it 4-1. The Eagles would add a run in the fourth, increasing their lead to 5-1.
But, Villanova would rally, scoring two in the sixth and four in the seventh, claiming a 7-5 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. BC would come right back, scoring three times on four hits, regaining the lead, 8-7.
Ahead 9-7 heading into the top of the ninth, BC looked in control, but the Wildcats had another comeback in them, scoring twice off of right-hander Terry Doyle. Spatola's single in the bottom of the frame broke the 9-9 tie and gave the Eagles a much needed win.
