Neal McCarthy, born March 21, 1979 … Played for the 2000 Cape Cod summer League's Wareham Gateman, where he hit .231 (18-for-78) … in 12 at bats, hit .250 with men in scoring position and two outs.

AS A SOPHOMORE: Named to the All-BIG EAST second team as an outfielder … earned BIG EAST Academic All-Star team honors for the second-consecutive season … hit 52-for-169 (.308) with 30 RBIs on the season … powered 15 multiple-hit and seven multiple-RBI games … finished ninth in the BIG EAST conference in stolen bases for all games with 16 (first on the BC squad) … in conference games, Neal hit .350 (28-for-80) with 16 RBIs … drove in three runs in two games (Stonehill, Georgetown) .. hit a triple vs. Monmouth and Villanova … his RBI-triple vs. the Wildcats in the top of the ninth plated the game-winning run in BC's 7-6 triumph … in the Eagles' final at bat, Neal singled in the winning run to lift BC 6-5 over Brown (April 6) … went 4-for-8 in two games vs. Seton Hall (April 15), scored the game-winning run after leading off the 11th inning with a double to give BC the 9-8 triumph over the Pirates … was 4-for-8 in two, three-game conference series against both Villanova and Notre Dame … singled up the middle against the Red Sox, stole second and scored on Durkin's double to give BC a 1-0 lead in the first.

AT BISHOP HENDRICKEN: Four-time all-state, all-city and all-division selection … his senior season, named Gatorade and USA Today state player of the year after batting .600 with 10 home runs … also named Bishop Hendricken and Warwick's athlete of the year.

PERSONAL: Enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences as a sociology major … a four-year varsity starter in soccer, McCarthy merited all-state honors his senior year, and all-division and all-city accolades for two years … Neal is the younger child of Ruth and Robert McCarthy's two sons.
