Michael Christopher Hubbard, born October 31, 1978 ... Chosen as a Collegiate Baseball BIG EAST 2001 Player to Watch ... voted Best Defensive BIG EAST shortstop in Baseball America ... played for the Rhode Island Gulls in the 2000 NECBL with BC teammates Jed Rogers and Paul Knapic; competed for the title against the Keene Swamp Bats (Jeff Mackor, Matt Lederhos).

AS A SENIOR: Captained the 2001 squad and named to the All-BIG EAST second team as a shortstop ... Hit .271 ... led all Eagles with 19 stolen bases (seventh in the BIG EAST for all games played at regular season's end) in 2001, surpassing his three-year total of 18 ... reached base safely in 42 of 50 games, including his first 12-consecutive games ... hit .343 for 11 RBIs in Florida with five stolen bases ... went 3-for-4 with his first career grand slam and a sacrifice fly for five RBIs vs. Monmouth March 9 ... was 2-for-3 with two RBIs vs. the Red Sox ... hit 3-for-4 in BC's 7-3 loss to Oklahoma State with an RBI and run scored.

AS A JUNIOR: Started all 54 games that he played ... was a key-cog in BC's double play trio that finished sixth in the country in double plays per game (1.24) ... on the year, batted .263 (49-for-186) with 13 extra-base hits (eight doubles, three triples, and two home runs) ... drove in 25 runs ... finished second on the team with 13 stolen bases ... was third on the Eagle squad in walks (18) ... had at least two hits in 14 games and powered three hits in a game twice (Valparaiso, College of Charleston) ... involved in BC's unorthodox 2-6-2 triple play vs. Valparaiso ... drove in three runs in BC's 6-5 clipping of Brown University (April 6) ... stole two bases in BC's 5-3 win over Villanova (April 1) ... batted .417 (5-for-12) in the BIG EAST Tournament with a pair of doubles, a triple and four runs scored.

AS A SOPHOMORE: Played in and started 45 games ... finished the season with a batting average of .329 (56-for-170) with four home runs, 23 RBIs, and 37 runs scored ... enjoyed 13 multiple-hit games, highlighted by four hits in each of two games; he went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs in a 16-4 triumph over Rhode Island (March 30) ... also stroked four hits in a win over Connecticut (May 2) ... went 9-for-18 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored at Notre Dame (April 17) ... was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in an Eagle victory over Harvard (April 13) ... went 2-for-2 with a walk at national power Arizona State (March 21) ... contributed a 2-for-3 effort in BC's victory in the Beanpot Championship vs. UMass (April 29).

AS A FRESHMAN: Played in 31 games, starting 24 ... finished his first season with a .266 batting average ... enjoyed nine multiple-hit games, including one three-hit effort ... drove in multiple runs in three games ... had two hits in each of his first two games - St. Anselm (March 2) and Bryant College (March 6) ...was 3-for-4, including his first collegiate home run, in a 10-5 win over Northeastern (April 7) ... enjoyed a second multiple-hit outing this time vs. Northeastern, going 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored in the Beanpot at Fenway Park (April 23) ... wrapped up his freshman year with a 1-for-2 effort against Connecticut (May 3) in the second game of a doubleheader; registered a two-run, two-out single.

BEFORE BC: Earned Catholic Conference all-star honors as a junior and senior ... was a two-time Quincy Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic selection ... led Boston College High School to two conference titles ... won the Thomas Murphy (Sportsmanship) award ... served as team captain as a senior ... hit .390 with two home runs in half a season as a senior; missed the second half of the year with a rotator cuff injury.
