Selected to 2004 Preseason Baseball America All-America Second Team and the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America Third Team ...Voted 2004 Preseason BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year ...Named to the Preseason BIG EAST First Team (unanimous selection) ...Played for the Chatham Athletics in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League, finishing with a record of 3-3, 56 strikeouts and 2.12 ERA; won the league's John Claffey New England Top Prospect Award.

Named BIG EAST pitcher of the week three times: March 10 - after Indiana game, giving up only three hits and 12 strikeouts; April 29 - after a win against Seton Hall when he threw a no-hitter for 5.2 innings and finished a complete game, surrendering only three hits and striking out seven; May 5 - after a one-hit shutout against Pittsburgh, compiling eight strikeouts in seven innings of work ... Also named ECAC pitcher of the week on May 5 ... Team leader and second in BIG EAST with strikeouts (88) ... Second in BIG EAST for complete games (seven)... ERA of 2.71 (fourth in BIG EAST and 59th in the nation) ... Held batters to .216 batting average over the spring ... Pitched a team-high 79.2 innings ... Had four consecutive wins to close out the season at 8-2 ... One of the best pitchers in the country ... Became the first pitcher in conference history to claim pitcher - and rookie-of-the-year honors ... Joined Connecticut's Charles Nagy ('87) as the only freshman to be named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year ... Selected a Freshman All-American by Louisville Slugger and Baseball America ... Garnered American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Northeast region First Team accolades ... BIG EAST earned run average champion (2.76) for all games played ... Ranked second in the conference in opponents batting average (.216), tied for second in wins (nine) and complete games (five) and was fifth in strikeouts (87) ... Came out of the bullpen in his first seven appearances, then was inserted into the rotation at the start of the BIG EAST season and made 10 straight starts ... Won his first nine decisions before dropping his last three ... Of his nine wins, five were in BIG EAST competition (3/24 - Rutgers, 3/30 - Pittsburgh, 4/12 - West Virginia, 4/20 - Villanova, 4/27 - St. John's) ...
