The Eagles Finish the Season Strong at the Middlebury Carnival
Feb. 27, 2014
The 2014 Ski Season ended on a high note with strong performances from everyone and the ski lift getting struck by lightning on Friday afternoon! There were BC skiers right near the point of impact, however, thankfully the bolt traveled down the wire and exploded at the lift house. No one was injured, but it ruined the timing system causing the ladies slalom race to be cut short to one run.
For the ladies giant slalom, there were great performances from junior Michelle Solomon coming in 37th overall, followed closely behind by freshman Kristie Ryan in 38th place overall. Junior Paige Kozlowski also saw action and senior captain Katie Cutting raced in her final collegiate giant slalom.
The men's team was led by a great performance from sophomore Chase Ryan who came in 14th overall with two consistent runs. Keith Schuman followed close behind in 23rd place, also a very strong finish. Freshman Trevor Lennox rounded out the pack with a 44th place finish. Senior captain Eddie Mele also saw action in his last race as a collegiate skier. Both Chris Keating and Ryan Barney had competitive first runs, but unfortunately they both fell on the second run.
In the ladies slalom, senior captain Katie Cutting ended out her collegiate career with a strong 25th place finish, leading the way for the ladies' team. Freshman Kristie Ryan also had a strong day, finishing in 44th place. Michelle Solomon, Emily Starer and Paige Kozlowski also saw action.
Lastly, the men performed very well in the slalom. Chase Ryan had a season high 9th place finish with two extremely fast runs. He ended his very strong sophomore season on a high note. Keith Schuman finished his also very strong sophomore season with a 31st place finish. Ryan Barney, Trevor Lennox, and Eddie Mele all finished strong as well. This race put sophomore Chase Ryan close to qualification to the NCAA's.
This was great season for Boston College Alpine Skiing and congratulations to all of the racers especially the seniors who have put in four years of hard work.
