A Snowy Weekend at the Williams Carnival
Feb. 20, 2014
This weekend the Eagles were lucky enough to have a special guest come out to cheer them on at the Williams Carnival. Athletic Director Brad Bates made the journey out to Jiminy Peak to show his support. It was really great to have him there.
The Berkshires received snow at the beginning and the end of the event that weekend, which made it a nightmare for the race officials. They did the impossible job of giving the racer a solid surface to ski on both days. The 16 inches of snow that Jiminy received prior to the race, prompted the race organizers to push the slalom up to Friday.
On Friday, senior captain Katie Cutting had a terrific 24th place finish with two runs of identical times. This was an outstanding day to remember in her second to last collegiate race. Junior Taylor Burgart also had a strong performance for the women placing 39th overall.
For the men in the slalom, Chase Ryan lead the way with a 28th place finish overall. His roommate and fellow sophomore, Keith Shuman, finished close behind him in 34th place. Freshman Ryan Barney also had a terrific second run, coming in 29th place for the individual run.
On Saturday, the Eagles skied in the giant slalom at Jiminy Peak. For the women, freshman Kristie Ryan lead the way in one of her best performances of the year. For the men, they finished extremely strong with all three sophomore boys finishing in the top 30 racers. Chase Ryan had one of his best performances of the season coming in 15th place overall. Chris Keating finished right behind him in 19th place and Keith Shuman placed 28th overall.
The Eagles had a great weekend and are looking forward to next week at Middlebury for the NCAA regionals.
