Busy Three-Day Weekend for the Eagles
Feb. 4, 2014
Skiing this weekend consisted of traveling to Attitash Mountain in New Hampshire on Friday and Saturday for the UNH Carnival and heading up to Burke Mountain in Vermont on Sunday for the rescheduled UVM Carnival. Due to a lack of adequate snow for racing, the UNH Carnival had to be moved from Cannon Mountain to Attitash Mountain.
Overall, the men's team had a great performance in both the slalom and giant slalom with 8th and 9th place finishes respectively. In the giant slalom, sophomore Keith Schuman led the way with an impressive 20th place finish overall followed by freshman Ryan Barney finishing 30th overall. Unfortunately, due to the tough conditions Chris Keating and Derek Zucco both fell and did not finish their first runs. On Saturday for the slalom, Keith Schuman led the way again coming in 23rd overall followed by his roommate and fellow sophomore, Chase Ryan. Due to the tough conditions, it was tough to stay skiing on two feet. Both Griffin Robillard and Derek Zucco did not finish their first runs and sophomore Chris Keating did not finish his second after finishing in 12th place on the first run of the day.
For the women at the UNH Carnival, Michelle Solomon led the way in the giant slalom with a 42nd place finish and senior Katie Cutting had a great second day racing slalom with an overall 28th place finish. This was one of her career best finishes. As for the make-up slalom race for the UVM Carnival, Keith Schuman finished on top for the BC men with an overall 28th place finish. As for the women, Katie Benjamin lead the way with a 37th place finish.
The Eagles will race next at the Dartmouth Carnival at Dartmouth Skiway on 2/7/14 and 2/8/14.
