Skiing Continues Strong Start at St. Lawrence Carnival

The Boston College Ski Team traveled to Lake Placid, NY this past weekend to compete in the St. Lawrence carnival. The team raced Giant Slalom on Jan. 18 and Slalom on Jan. 19. The conditions at Lake Placid were consistent, aggressive and difficult; in particular temperatures on the course were as low as seventeen degrees below zero.
In Friday's Giant Slalom, the Women's team was led by Sophomore Shannon Quinn, who finished in a career best 21st-place, moving up from 62nd at the beginning of competition. Behind Shannon was fellow Sophomore Taylor Burgart who came in 51st -place, and Senior Alexandra Boit who did not finish her second run. The women finished in 11th-place overall.
On the Men's side, Freshman Chase Ryan led the way with a 21st-place finish, his second top-30 finish in a row. Behind Chase fellow Freshman Chris Keating qualified for a second run but was not able to finish. Keith Schuman and Derek Zucco were unable to finish their first run. Overall the Men finished in 11th-place.
In Saturday's Slalom saw four Eagles finish in the top-30. The Women were led by Junior Katie Cutting, who finished in 30th-place, scoring NCAA points for the second strait weekend. Behind Katie were Senior Kelly Burgart, who finished in 40th-place, and Sophomore Taylor Burgart who finished in 47th. Sophomore Shannon Quinn was disqualified from competition after her first run. The Women finished in tenth-place overall.
For the Men Freshman Chris Keating led the way and finished in 11th-place. Behind Chris were fellow freshman and roommates Chase Ryan and Keith Schuman, who came in 20th-place and 24th-place respectively. Stacey Bolger and Derek Zucco did not finish their first runs. The results helped the men finish in a team-best fourth-place finish, beating out rival Dartmouth College.
