Pico, VT -
The Boston College Ski team opened their season at the Castleton Carnival in an exhibition race at Pico, VT.
The race was hosted by Castelton State College, one of the newest members of the MacConnell Division, and their first event of the year. Boston College only raced the second day of competition, which was slalom racing. With sparse snow conditions and the lack of a solid base, it was difficult for athletes to reach top speeds. Alongside Boston College, Colby Sawyer also guest raced and this was the first time that the MacConnell Division had hosted EISA teams.
The highlight of the day was Sophomore Katie Cutting, winning the race by an impressive margin of 2.23 seconds. Juniors Kelly Burgart and Alex Boit finished 5th and 6th, respectively. Those three had the top three times in the race for the second run. Freshman Shannon Quinn finished 7th in her collegiate debut. The men struggled to find a rhythm in the deep ruts and soft snow. Sophomores Derek Zucco in 9th and Eddie Mele in 12th led the team. Junior Jimmy Campbell scored third for BC with a 14th place finish.
