Three Boston College Sailors Win All-America Honors
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Three Boston College sailors - junior Peter Spaulding of Wareton, N.J.; junior Chris Murray of South Dartmouth, Mass.; and senior Jen Rovegno of Paris, France - have been named to the 1997 Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association (ICRYA) All-America Sailing Team.
The All-America Sailing Team, which is sponsored by Ronstan, is selected by the vote of a panel of representatives from each ICYRA district. The honor recognizes individuals with exceptional sailing records throughout the fall and spring racing seasons.
Spaulding, BC's first All-America sailor in nearly 50 years, won the honor for the second consecutive year in 1997. He was named to the coed competition All-America category. Murray, who captured the All-America laurels for the first time, was the only New England member of the men's All-America team; and Rovegno, also a first-time national winner, was named to the All-America Crew.
The Boston College sailing team finished third in New England this past spring and qualified for the ICYRA/Sperry Top-Sider National Coed Dinghy Championship regatta held earlier this month in Portland, Ore. The Eagles finished sixth in the two-day national sailing event.
The Boston College sailing team is coached by Norm Reid of Bedford, Mass.
