Sailing Wins Team Race Conference Championship
May 2, 2012
Cambridge, MA - For the second time this spring, the Boston College Sailing Team has won a Conference Championship. The Eagles, coming off the Women's Conference Championship last weekend, were not the favorites going into this weekend's Team Race Conference Championship.
No. 1 ranked Yale University were the heavy favorites and the Eagles hoped to sail well enough to earn a National Championship berth by finishing in the top three.
Despite getting off to a strong start on Saturday, BC ended the day with three straight losses and was in fifth overall after the first day of racing.
Led by senior All-Americans Annie Haeger and Briana Provancha, the Eagles won eight of their nine matches on Sunday to climb to the top of the leaderboard and win the 2012 NEISA Team Race Conference Championship, edging out Brown University and Roger Williams.
The win qualifies BC for the team race National Championship in Austin, Texas in late May.
