Women's Sailing Crowned ICSA National Champions

Eagles win the women's national sailing title

Greg Wilkinson took over the Boston College sailing program in the 2002 season. Since his arrival, the Eagles have won two ICSA Women's National Championships, two ICSA Team National Championships, two ICSA Coed National Championships, a Match Race National title and the Sloop National Championship. In addition, Wilkinson has led the Eagles to three Fowle Trophies, which is an award given to the ICSA's Team of the Year.

He has also helped develop individual national champions as former Eagle Annie Haeger won 2008, 2009 and 2011 ICSA Women's Singlehanded National Championship while this past year freshman Erika Reineke captured the 2012 ICSA Women's Singlehanded National Championship.

Two of his former sailors - Annie Haeger `12 and Briana Provancha `12 - are competing for the US Sailing team, as well as current student-athlete Erika Reineke. Former Eagles Taylor Canfield turned professional and is currently ranked ninth in the world in match racing by the International Sailing Federation.

In 2010, Wilkinson's BC team became sixth school in 42 years of Intercollegiate sailing to win three championships - the 2008 ICSA Women's Nationals, 2008 and 2009 ICSA/APS Team Race and the 2010 ICSA/Gill National Championship.

Wilkinson, a native of Rockport, Mass., began his coaching career working in youth sailing, while coaching for one year at Winchester High School. A year later, Wilkinson became the head coach at the University of Vermont. He was the Catamounts head coach for six years before arriving at the Heights.

In addition to his coaching duties, Wilkinson is involved in the administration of collegiate sailing. He served as commissioner of the ICSA for four years and on the board of directors. In 2008, he joined the Eastern Yacht Club as year-round sailing director/sailing professional.

Wilkinson was named the Coach of the Year in Sailing by the United States Olympic Committee in the spring of 2010 and the fall of 2011. He was named as one of the US Coaches for the 2011 Pan Am Games Team, leading the team to nine medals.
