Program Enhancements

Through the generosity of our loyal Gridiron Club members we have been extremely successful in raising funds to support the Boston College Football Program. Membership fees and all contributions made to the Gridiron Club, whether $5 or $50 help our efforts in supporting the Boston College Football Program. These fees and contributions, along with our Gridiron Club Dinners, raffle tickets, our Away Game socials and the Darren Douglas Gallup Golf Tournament form the core of our giving and allow the Club to be active in the support of these student-athletes.

The Boston College Gridiron Club in 2006 established the Gridiron Club Football Scholarship. This $150,000 gift will endow in perpetuity an athletic scholarship; income from this endowment will support a student-athlete participating in the football program that embodies the Club's ideals of being a scholar, an athlete, and a gentleman.

Additionally, in 2006 and in celebration of the team's 50th season in Alumni Stadium, the Boston College Gridiron Club was proud to fund the Gridiron Club Eagle adjacent to the team's locker room. It is a 37 inch high cast bronze sculpture with a 30 inch wingspan inside Gate E, adjacent to the BC locker room. On the "Tradition Mural" behind the Gridiron Club Eagle the inscription reads, "By touching this Eagle, you remember those who came before you and promise to set an example for those to come." At each home game, as the team emerges from the locker room, each member will touch the eagle in honor of all the student-athletes, coaches and fans who have played a role in establishing BC's proud football tradition. The Gridiron Club Eagle was unveiled on September 9th at the 2006 home opener against Clemson and one year later the team and the Gridiron Club Eagle were still undefeated at home.

In 2004, the Gridiron Club pledged $100,000 to the Yawkey Athletics Center in memory of Darren Douglas Gallup who died tragically in 2003. Darren was a three sport athlete at The Belmont Hill School and was the son of Barry Gallup, Assistant Athletic Director of Football Operations and a former football and basketball player at Boston College. This five year commitment was fully funded in eighteen months through the outstanding effort of Gridiron Club members and has created a lasting legacy at Boston College to celebrate Darren's life and his family's contributions to Boston College. The Gridiron Club will continue to raise funds in the future for the football program in the name of Darren Douglas Gallup.
