April 21, 2023 | Softball
Eagles pull out win off four runs first inning, Schouten hits huge three run homer
CHESTNUT HILL, MASS – Boston College beat Notre Dame 4-1 on Friday evening. The Eagles are now 21-22 on the season and 3-13 in ACC play and the Irish go to 27-13-1 overall and 9-9-1 in conference play.
BC came out on fire to begin this one, they scored four first inning runs on a Nicole Giery RBI and a three run home run from Freshman Meghan Schouten. It was her third home run of the season.
The Irish would get on the board in the second inning to make the score 4-1 but that would be about as much offense as they could muster against the Eagles who played one of their best defensive games of the season. Sophomore pitcher Abby Dunning and her team were able to limit Notre Dame to just six hits while playing nearly error free, recording only one error as a team. Dunning pitched her 12th complete game of the season, recording six strikeouts in 26 total at bats, she gets her tenth win of the season and improves her record as a starter to 10-7.
Boston College and Notre Dame will play a doubleheader tomorrow to finish up the series, with the first game scheduled to begin at 2 p.m EST. BC's Senior Day Ceremony will be held prior to the first game of the day.
