Eagles Drop Weekend Finale at UNF
March 06, 2022 | Baseball
Â
BC initially trailed 7-0, falling behind immediately with a five-run first for UNF. The Eagles got on the board with a run in the fourth and cut the deficit to one with a five-run fifth, including a grand slam from junior center fielder Barry Walsh (Sterling, Mass.).
Â
The Ospreys answered Boston College's rally with four runs in the bottom of the fifth and ballooned their lead to 16-6 with five more runs in the sixth.
Â
The Eagles used 11 pitchers in a nearly four-hour contest beginning with freshman right-hander Eric Schroeder (Ridgewood, N.J.). Schroeder (0-1) failed to get out of the first inning and took the loss with five runs charged to his line on four hits and two hit batsmen in two-thirds of an inning.
Â
Junior RHP Evan Moore (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was one of just three BC pitchers to throw a complete inning and not allow a run. He struck out two, including the first batter he faced, in his first appearance since missing the entire 2021 season due to cancer.
Â
Justin Parrish (1-0) got the win in 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Catcher Dallen Leach homered for the second day in a row with four RBI on a 2-for-3 day.
Â
Walsh powered the Eagle lineup with six RBI in a 2-for-4 performance. Junior second baseman Luke Gold (Ballston, N.Y.) went 3-for-5 with three runs, while sophomore first baseman Joe Vetrano (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) was 2-for-5 with three runs.
