BC had the edge after the first, but the Cardinals stormed out in the second half
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 10th-ranked Louisville men's soccer team used a four-goal second half to claim a 4-0 ACC win over Boston College on Friday night at Lynn Field.
Â
After the teams played a scoreless first half, the Cardinals scored less than two minutes into the second half, and added and pushed the score to 2-0 20 minutes later in the 67th minute. U of L tacked on two more goals in less than seven minutes to round out the scoring. Louisville forward Tate Schmitt finished with two goals and one assist.
Â
BC held the advantage heading into the break, out-shooting the Cardinals 6-3, maintaining the advantage in possession and forcing U of L keeper Jake Gelnovatch into a sliding, back-foot save on a prime Simon Enstrom change in the 31st minute. However, the game's flow reversed in the second half after the quick first Louisville goal.
Boston College returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 26, when the team hosts Rhode Island in a non-conference game at the Newton Campus Fields. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra, which is available on WatchESPN and the ESPN app.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 27' | Henry Balf collected the ball at the edge of the Eagles' attacking zone and played Callum Johnson coming down the right center channel. The sophomore took some space and then ripped a 25-yard shot, but it curled just wide of U of L goalkeeper Jake Gelnovatch's net.
- 31' | Simon Enstrom received Younes Boudadi's cross in the box and was able to pull the ball down and get around his defender. He quickly released his shot, but his evasive move around his mark gave Gelnovatch time to come out and make a charging save on the shot with trail leg. Â
- 47' | GOAL – Louisville's Adam Wilson sent an angled cross in to the top of the area where Tate Schmitt chested it, turned and beat Antonio Chavez Borrelli with a left-footed18-yard half-volley around a BC defender, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead just out of the intermission.
- 67' | GOAL – Louisville's Cherif Dieye came in on the far post, making a run for Schmitt as he dribbled across the top of the penalty area. Schmitt then fed Dieye, who first-timed it just inside the near post from 12 yards out for a 2-0 U of L lead.
- 70' | GOAL – The Cardinals pushed the lead to 3-0 when Tim Kubel got on the end of Dieye's cross from the left. Coming down the right wing, his back across the goal bounced in front of the keeper and found the inside on the far post.
- 71' | Beto Luna latched onto the ball in traffic after Mohammed Moro's corner-kick service, but his side-volley was blocked on the far post
- 75' | GOAL - On a Louisville corner kick, Kubel's service was in the middle of the six-yard box, where Chavez Borrelli came out to palm the ball down for a better grip on the bounce. However, the bounce was higher and further away than he expected and Schmitt jumped on it and pounded it home.
- 78' | After coming on as a substitute, Adam French got a head on a service from close distance, but it was wide and bounced off the net stanchion. Â
