Coffey, Vaughn Lead Eagles Past Louisville, 2-0

Eagles defeat Louisville in first ACC game of the season.
NEWTON, Mass. – The Boston College women's soccer team defeated ACC foe Louisville, 2-0, in the conference season opener on Sunday afternoon at the Newton Soccer Field.
Boston College is now 7-3-0 and 1-0-0 in the ACC. Louisville dropped to 6-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the conference.
Rookie midfielder Sam Coffey scored a first half goal on a highlight reel of a goal in the 37th minute off a direct kick. Coffey's goal came from 24-yards out into the top near post for a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Olivia Vaughn sealed the victory with a beautiful goal set up by Kayla Jennings and Lauren Berman with three minutes left in the game.
Junior goalkeeper Alexis Bryant played strong in goal as she had three saves and picked up her third consecutive shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GOAL: BC 1, Louisville 0 – 37th min: Freshman Sam Coffey scored from 24 yards out off a direct kick to the right of the Louisville goalkeeper Gabrielle Kouzelos. Coffey's shot went directly into the top near post corner, untouchable for the keeper to get a hand on.
GOAL: BC 2, Louisville 0 – 87th minute: Lauren Berman connected with Kayla Jennings at midfield. Jennings, a junior midfielder, sent a ball through the Louisville backline giving teammate Olivia Vaugh space to run onto the ball. Vaughn carried the ball into the box and slid it to the back of the goal for a 2-0 lead.

"I thought we really played a focused game today. Our goalkeeper (Alexis Bryant) and back line (Allyson Swaby, Madison Kenny, Gianna Mitchell & Elysa Virella) were very good again,'' said Foley. "Sam Coffey scored a phenomenal direct kick and from that point on we were on top of our game.''

- Senior Lauren Berman has recorded two goals and two assists in the last three games. She helped set up the Eagles second goal by Oliva Vaughn. Berman now has five goals and three assists for 13 points.
- Freshman Sam Coffey notched her third goal in the 37th minute. Coffey now has 12 points as a rookie.
- Junior Alexis Bryant notched her fourth shutout this season, third consecutive (BU, St. John's & Louisville).
