Former Eagle Kathleen Murphy will be honored
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College field hockey will host its 11th annual MS Game in honor of former student-athlete Kathleen Murphy, a 2009 Boston College graduate, on Sunday, Oct. 8 when the Eagles (5-1) host Harvard at 1 p.m.
Â
Murphy was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in April 2007, then a forward on the BC field hockey team. MS is a disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information between the brain and body.
Â
Refusing to let the disease win, Murphy battled through her senior season, scoring two goals and recording a career-high three assists in 20 appearances. In her BC career, she played 79 games, scored 11 times, recorded nine assists and racked up 31 points.
Â
Beginning in 2007, BC joined Murphy in her fight. The Eagles participate in the MS Walk each year as part of "Murphy's Law." Every fall, the field hockey hosts a game in her honor to raise funds and awareness with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in attendance.
Â
Murphy's former coach Ainslee Lamb, who was at BC's helm for 10 years, will be in attendance as she is working with the Harvard field hockey team this season.
