Flynn Fund Launches New Campaign: “Give 110%”
September 13, 2017 | Boston College Athletics
New fundraising campaign launches with goal to increase support from current – and new – Flynn Fund donors.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Giving "110%" is something that occurs across the fields, courts and rinks of Boston College on a daily basis.
Though cliché in its nature, the notion of going above and beyond is embedded in this community and while the athletes continue to leave it all on the field, the Boston College Flynn Fund is looking for donors to match that intensity off the field.
"We're going to ask our donors to match the effort and energy that is put forth by our student-athletes by giving 110 percent of their gift of the prior year," said Steve Novak, Senior Associate Athletic Director, Development & Strategic Initiatives.
This fiscal year, the Flynn Fund will be asking previous donors, of which there was a record 7,655 last year, to increase their gift by 10 percent.
So, for someone who donated $1,500 a year ago, they are asking for a donation of $1,650.
And for those looking to become first time members, the Flynn Fund is asking for an initial gift of $110.
"We need more people under that tent," Novak explained. "People who have not been donors in the last year will be asked to give $110 as their first gift to Boston College Athletics, and become a member of the Flynn Fund. For those that are already on board, we're going to ask you to do more.
"We've done really well in our current situation and have had some great accomplishments. We're building a lot facilities and programs because of the investment that people have made. If we're going to move forward, it's going to be because we have increased investment from those who have already joined us, as well as those still to come on board."
Anyone who visits campus can see the work prior fundraising campaigns continue to impact, including the current construction of the Connell Recreation Center and the athletics field house, as well as new baseball, softball and recreation fields on the Brighton campus.
Spurred by the fresh energy brought by Martin Jarmond, the new William V. Campbell Director of Athletics, the Flynn Fund is aiming to bring donors closer to the action with added incentives including prizes, social media shout outs and donor gifts.
"I think people are excited and hungry about the future of Boston College Athletics," Novak said. "It's a new day and we are embracing that with the recognition that we want to see success as quickly as we possibly can. And that's going to come with investments. The 'new day' mantra is something we've taken to heart in our department."
