Eagles open the season Oct. 5 with first of two vs. Minnesota Duluth
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College, the four-time defending Hockey East regular-season and two-time defending tournament champion, will officially open the 2017-18 women's hockey season on Thursday, Oct. 5, according to the schedule released today by head coach Katie Crowley. | FULL SCHEDULE
The schedule released is subject to change and any updates will be posted at bceagles.com and on the Eagles' social channels (@bc_whockey on Twitter and Instagram).
The Eagles will play a 34-game, regular-season schedule, which includes Hockey East's 24-game slate. Among the team's 10 non-conference matchups are two games each against Minnesota Duluth, St. Lawrence and Harvard, and single games against Quinnipiac and Syracuse.
Additionally, the Eagles will host the 40th Women's Beanpot in early February, with Northeastern set as the team's first-round matchup.
All of Boston College's home games will be streamed live on ESPN3, which is available at watchespn.com and the ESPN App.
"We're anxious to get the 2017-18 season started," Crowley said. "We have a very strong group of players returning and an outstanding freshman class joining us. Our past classes have set a standard that we look to achieve – and pass – each year, with a national championship as our ultimate goal.
"Hockey East continues to get stronger and stronger each year and we have a non-conference schedule that includes NCAA participants Duluth and St. Lawrence. And Quinnipiac, Harvard and Syracuse are always challenging opponents," she added.
After an exhibition game against Canadian university Laurentian on Friday, Sept. 22, the Eagles will have a bye weekend before officially opening up with a two-game series against Minnesota Duluth on Oct. 5 and 6 at Kelley Rink. This is the third straight year BC will open the season with a pair against the Bulldogs.
Another bye weekend follows Duluth, and BC returns to action with a midweek home game against Quinnipiac on Oct. 17. The Eagles then open the Hockey East slate with three straight away games – at Connecticut on Oct. 20, at Vermont on Oct. 22 and at Boston University on Oct. 28 – before hosting Maine on Oct. 29 in the annual Skating Strides Game.
November sees BC host Providence on Oct. 3, before traveling to Syracuse on Oct. 4. The weekend trip to Canton, N.Y., to face St. Lawrence is set for Oct. 10-11, which will be a rematch of the 2017 NCAA Quarterfinal game. BC won that contest 6-0 at Kelley Rink to advance to the Frozen Four.
BC returns home on Oct. 17 against Connecticut before the away game in Storrs on Oct. 18. The first of two non-conference games against Harvard is up on Nov. 22, this one at the Bright Hockey Center, before BC has Thanksgiving weekend off and Northeastern at home on Nov. 28 to close the month.
The annual home-and-home weekend with Boston University is set for Dec. 1 and 2, with a Merrimack home-and-home scheduled the following weekend on Dec. 8 and 9.
After the traditional holiday break, BC returns to action with a third-straight game against Merrimack – the series finale in North Andover – on Jan. 2.
BC then faces New Hampshire at home on Jan. 5 and in Durham on Jan. 7, before the home-and-home with Northeastern the next weekend on Jan. 12 (Kelley Rink) and 13 (Matthews Arena). The second meeting with Harvard is set for Jan. 16, with a two-game series against Vermont at Kelley Rink scheduled for Jan. 19-20. BC closes the month with two against Providence: in Chestnut Hill on Jan. 26 and at Schneider Arena on Jan. 27.
The 40th Women's Beanpot opens February with Boston College hosting the historic event. The Harvard-Boston University first-round game will open play at 5 p.m., on Feb. 6, followed by the host Eagles against Northeastern at 8 p.m. The championship and consolation games will be played at Kelley Rink on Feb. 13, with the first game face-off set for 4:30 p.m., and the championship scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Between Beanpot Tuesdays, BC will host New Hampshire on Feb. 9. The regular season concludes with a two-game trip to Maine on Feb. 16-17.
The Hockey East Quarterfinals are scheduled for Feb. 23-25 at campus sites, while Championship Weekend is set for March 3-4. Hockey East will announce the site of the 2017 championship at a later date.
NCAA play is scheduled to begin the weekend of March 9-10, with the Frozen Four set for Minneapolis, Minn., the following weekend. The NCAA Semifinals will be played on March 16, and the national championship game on March 18. Minnesota is hosting this year's event at Ridder Arena.
