CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – One of the Big Ten's top softball players over the past four years has joined Ashley Obrest's staff as a volunteer assistant coach of the Boston College softball program.
Â
Lindsay Montemarano, a former member of the 2016 All-Big Ten Second Team and Big Ten All-Defensive Team, will move to The Heights and join Obrest and assistant coaches Megan Brown and John Pandolfo on the softball diamond. She comes to Chestnut Hill after playing four years as a third baseman at Michigan.
Â
"I couldn't be more thrilled to have Lindsay join us this year," said Obrest. "Her experience at Michigan, playing in two Women's College World Series in back to back years, playing for the winningest coach in NCAA history, all while earning a diploma from an elite institution, is truly remarkable. We are beyond excited to welcome her to The Heights!"
Â
Montemarano completed an impressive senior year in which she started 53 and posted a .293 batting average and .422 slugging percentage. She also finished the season with a .961 fielding percentage and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.
Â
"Ashley is someone who I'm excited to learn from as she has really brought Boston College to new heights the last couple of seasons," said Montemarano. "I'm excited to be able to contribute any way I can to help this team reach all of its goals!"
Â
Boston College finished the 2016 season with a 31-22 record, including a 14-9 mark in ACC play. The Eagles reached the conference tournament for the third consecutive year. Their conference wins was a program record.
Â
The softball team begins its fall schedule on Sept. 17 against Connecticut.
