NASSAU, Bahamas - The Boston College men's basketball team had a busy day on Tuesday before it prepares to return home on Wednesday morning after visiting the Fox Hill area for a community service basketball clinic followed by a catamatan tour of the island.
Fox Hill is one of the oldest Bahamian villages in The Bahamas and its residents are called "Fox Hillians." The township's name is derived from Samuel Fox, an Enslaved African who was freed and granted 23.5 acres of land at Creek Village in 1801. The original settlement had concentrations of residents or small pockets of people of African origin scattered over a large portion of the area. They were originally from the Yoruba, Nango, Congo and Ebo Tribes of Africa.
There is a prison located in this area and many of the children in this area have had a rough upbringing. The Eagles came, and led by assistant coach Bill Wuczynski, aided all of the children in the community to some basketball fundamentals for the better part of the morning.
All in attendance had a great time, including the student-athletes, coaches and staff. Click here for the full photo gallery.
Following the clinic, the Eagles took a catamaran tour of the island. Despite a little rain to start the trip, the men's basketball program cruised the Caribbean, dropped anchor and swam and explored the seas for a good hour with lunch to follow.
