Landry collected AP All-America Second Team Honors in 2016
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Â Boston College senior defensive end Harold Landry was named to the 2017 AP Preseason All-America first team, the Associated Press announced on Tuesday. The honor was the latest in a long list of preseason accolades for the North Carolina native.
Â
Landry, who earned preseason All-America honors from Phil Steele, Lindy's, Street and Smith's and Athlon, was named to the All-ACC preseason team as well. In addition, Landry has been named to the watch list for the Ted Hendricks Award, the Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List and is on the watch list for the Bednarik and Maxwell Awards.
Â
Landry finished 2016 as the nation's leader in sacks (16.5) and forced fumbles (7) on his way to earning All-America accolades from the Associated Press and Walter Camp Football Foundation. The North Carolina native was also fifth in the nation and second in the ACC with 22.0 tackles-for-loss. Landry set the Boston College single-season record with 16.5 sacks a year ago.
Â
He was also a finalist for the Ted Hendricks Award in 2016, given annually to college football's top defensive end.
Â
Boston College returns 46 letterwinners and 17 starters in 2017 after the Eagles won three consecutive games to close out the 2016 season, including a 36-30 win over Big Ten foe Maryland in the Quick Lane Bowl. It was the first bowl win for the Eagles since 2007 as BC went to the postseason for the third time in the previous four seasons.
Â
BC opens the 2017 season Friday, Sept. 1 at Northern Illinois (9:30 p.m.) on CBS Sports Network. The Eagles open the 2017 home schedule on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. vs. Wake Forest (ACC Network Extra).
