Sophomore Sarah Dwyer makes 10 saves
BOSTON, Mass. – The Boston College field hockey wrapped up its preseason scrimmage schedule with a scoreless bout against Boston University on Sunday evening at New Balance Field. The crosstown rivals played an even match as neither team could notch a goal in 70 minutes of action.
Â
Head coach Kelly Doton was pleased with the Eagles' play on the field and noted the game against a talented Terriers team gave BC more to work on before the season opener on Friday.
Â
"It's always great playing BU in the preseason. They are a really tough team; they compete really hard, they have a great coaching staff and they always give us a run for our money," Doton said. "They exposed some things for us that we are going to need to fix going into opening weekend. Our girls are learning some things as well. Tactically, we are not where we need to be but their energy is there, they're fighting and they're working hard. That is all I can ask for. That is why we do these scrimmages in the preseason. We are going to look at the film, learn some things from it and our energy is going to focused on Quinnipiac.
Â
Sophomore goalie Sarah Dwyer was tested in the preseason contest and did not allow a score, recording 10 saves.
Â
In the first half, the Terriers were the first have a scoring opportunity, earning a corner with just over 18 minutes to play. The shot was blocked. BC had two corners in the first frame, both within the last two minutes of play. On each attempt, the Eagles got two good shots off as the BU goalie made saves on each corner.
Â
At the end of the first 35 minutes, both teams recorded five shots and both goalies three saves.
Â
In the second half, BU had the only corner attempt, earning an opportunity just five minutes in. Dwyer made the save on the shot.
Â
The Terriers held the shot advantage in the second half, recording eight to the Eagles' four. The BU goalie made one save in the second half.
