Eagles’ defensive back now leads the nation in interceptions, while Matherson tallies twice in action last week
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College junior free safety Lukas Denis (football) and senior forward Brooke Matherson have been named Nissan Eagles of the Week for their performances last week.
Â
A back-to-back Eagle of the Week, Denis recorded two more interceptions on Saturday against Central Michigan, a new career-high for the Everett, Massachusetts native. With five interceptions on the year, he now shares the national lead in the category.
Â
Matherson scored two goals on the weekend: one in each of the Eagles' contests against No. 2 Duke and at New Hampshire. She scored the game-tying goal against the Blue Devils in the first half, which Duke went on to win in a shootout. She also scored the first of the game against the Wildcats on Sunday, which went down as the game-winner. Matherson leads the Eagles with five goals on the season.
Â
Football (2-3) returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 7, when the team hosts No. 16 Virginia Tech at 7:15 p.m. in a game that will be televised on ESPN2. The eighth-ranked field hockey team (8-4) next hosts No. 11 Louisville on Friday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m., which will be streamed live on ACC Network Plus.
