Eagles win second ACC game behind total team effort
The Eagles scored on their first four possessions (field goal, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown) for 24 points and 331 yards of total offense in the first half. A 76-yard scoring run by junior wide receiver Thadd Smith and a 76-yard reception by redshirt freshman wide receiver Kobay White marked the longest scoring plays of the season.Â
The Eagles improved to 6-0 all-time against the Cavaliers and earned their second consecutive ACC win for the first time since 2014.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
- Thadd Smith had the longest scoring play of the year for the Eagles with a 76-yard touchdown run. The run was the longest of Smith's career. Â
- White scored his first career touchdown on a 76-yard pass from Brown. It marked the longest reception of White's career and the longest completion of Brown's career.
- Junior tight end Tommy Sweeney had a career high two touchdowns.Â
- Brown threw a career high three touchdown passes. He finished 19-of-24 passing for a career-high 275 yards.
- Junior defensive back Will Harris recorded his first interception of the season and the fourth of his career.Â
- Sophomore defensive back Hamp Cheevers recorded his first career interception.Â
- Junior defenisve end Wyatt Ray tied his career high with 1.5 sacks.
KEY MOMENT
BC took a commanding lead with 1:57 left to play in the first quarter when it increased its lead to 17-0 as Brown completed a 76-yard touchdown pass to White. The Eagles would lead the rest of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BC opened the scoring on its first drive of the game when junior kicker Colton Lichtenberg converted a 30-yard field goal at 6:51 in the first quarter to give the Eagles an early 3-0 lead. The 15 play scoring drive included a 15-yard run by Brown, a series of rushes by junior running back Jon Hilliman and freshman running back AJ Dillon and a 28-yard pass to Sweeney to set the Eagles up at the Virginia 31-yard line.
- On the next drive for the Eagles, Brown threw a 10-yard pass to junior wide receiver Jeff Smith to give BC the ball at their own 24-yard line. Thadd Smith had a 76-yard touchdown run on the following play at 4:16 to make it 10-0.Â
- The Eagles increased their lead to 17-0 on their following drive when, after a series of rushes by Dillon, Brown completed a 76-yard touchdown pass to White with 1:57 left in the quarter.
- BC increased its lead to 24-0 with its fourth straight scoring drive at 11:35 in the second quarter when Brown threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Sweeney. Back-to-back passes from Brown to junior wide receiver Michael Walker set the Eagles up at the Virginia 20-yard line and Dillon carried the ball to the nine-yard line.Â
- With 42 seconds remaining in the first half, Virginia finished a 14-play, 59-yard scoring drive with a one-yard touchdown run by Joe Reed to make it 24-7.Â
- In the beginning of the second half, Brown completed a 14-yard pass to sophomore wide receiver Chris Garrison, which was followed by an 11-yard rush by Dillon and a seven-yard rush by Brown to the Virginia 35-yard line. The Eagles went for it on fourth-and-two and converted on a 14-yard pass from Brown to Sweeney. A 36-yard field goal by Lichtenberg at 10:42 increased BC's lead to 27-7.
- Brown completed a 29-yard pass to Hilliman to give the Eagles the ball at the Virginia 35-yard line. BC converted on fourth-and-one when Dillon rushed for 15 yards to the 11-yard line. A three-yard touchdown pass from Brown to Sweeney made it 34-7 with 2:11 left in the third quarter.Â
- Cavaliers kicker A.J. Mejia converted a 38-yard field goal at 14:53 in the fourth quarter to finish off a nine-play, 55-yard scoring drive for Virginia.Â
- Redshirt freshman linebacker John Lamot intercepted quarterback Lindell Stone's pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown at 9:30, increasing the Eagles' lead to 41-10.Â
