Eagles’ captain tabbed player of the month, while Belinskas continues Eagles’ rookie award streak
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – A pair of Boston College women's hockey players earned Hockey East monthly honors for their play in December as the Eagles posted a pair of road wins.
Â
The conference announced today that senior captain Andie Anastos was the Hockey East Warrior Player of the Month, while freshman forward Delaney Belinskas was tabbed the league's Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month.
Â
Anastos led all conference players with seven points in just two games last month. At Providence on Dec. 3, the Farmington Hills, Mich., product scored one goal and added three assists for her second career four-point game in the 8-0 victory. Four days later at Dartmouth, she scored one goal and added two assists in the team's 6-1 win.
Â
Her five assists in December led all players in Hockey East, while her 3.50 points per game and 2.50 assists per game topped all players nationally last month.
Â
Belinskas posted five points in the Eagles' two games, leading all Hockey East freshmen in scoring last month. Nationally, she paced all freshmen in goals per game (1.00), assists per game (1.50) and points per game (2.50) in December.
Â
At Providence, the Port Orange, Fla., product collected a pair of assists before notching two goals and adding a single assist in the road win at Dartmouth. She comes into the new year with a team-best six-game point streak, which includes three straight multiple-point games.
Â
Anastos and Belinskas are currently tied for ninth in Hockey East in overall scoring with 20 points apiece. In league games only, Belinskas is tied for fourth (16 points), while Anastos is tied for 11th (13 points). Belinskas ranks second in Hockey East goals (10), and her 13 overall goals are tied for third in the league.
Â
These are the first monthly honors of the year for each player, and this is BC's third straight conference rookie of the month honor after Caitrin Lonergan claimed the first two awards of the year (October, November).
Â
While these are both Anastos and Belinskas' first Hockey East monthly honors this season, they have each previously earned the conference's weekly awards. Anastos was the Warrior Player of the Week on Oct. 31, while Belinskas has earned two Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week awards: Oct. 10 and Dec. 12.
Sixth-ranked Boston College (12-3-3, 10-2-1 HEA) returns to action later today when the Eagles host Syracuse (5-8-5, 4-2-2 CHA) in a 4 p.m. non-conference tilt at Kelley Rink. On Saturday, BC will welcome Comm. Ave. rival Boston University for a 2 p.m. game.
